Freight Forwarding & INCOTERMS® Common Terms
Defined by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), INCOTERMS® 2010 are internationally recognised trade terms used to clearly outline the responsibilities of buyers and sellers in global trade and freight transactions.
These terms help determine obligations relating to transportation, insurance, customs clearance, risk transfer, and delivery arrangements.
INCOTERMS® are generally divided into two categories: terms used across all transport modes, and terms specifically designed for sea and inland waterway transport.
Common INCOTERMS® for All Modes of Transport (Group 1)
These terms can be applied to air freight, sea freight, rail, road transport, and multimodal shipments.
CIP — Carriage and Insurance Paid To
CPT — Carriage Paid To
DAT — Delivered at Terminal
DAP — Delivered at Place
DDP — Delivered Duty Paid
DDU — Delivered Duty Unpaid
EXW — Ex Works
FCA — Free Carrier
Common INCOTERMS® for Sea & Inland Waterway Transport Only (Group 2)
These terms are specifically intended for sea freight and inland waterway shipments.
CIF — Cost, Insurance and Freight
CFR — Cost and Freight
FAS — Free Alongside Ship
FOB — Free on Board
